Seahawks Make Many Changes - Nov. 08, 2009
After a summer filled with annual fundraising events, the Seahawks' began preparing for the Annual League Draft, which was held on Saturday, Oct. 17th in Nackawic.
The Seahawks looked to improve in both size and strength this year to compliment the nucleus of the team and entered the draft committed to do so.
With the departure of the Fredericton Hilltop Bud Lights, there was a dispersal draft held prior to the regular entry draft. The Seahawks chose goaltender Gene Chiraello along with forwards Adam Bradley and Joel Walker.
During the entry draft, the Seahawks obtained first pick overall and selected defenceman/forward Justin Roy, last years captain of the St. Thomas Tommies. The Seahawks who also held 3rd pick overall then chose Jeff Oliver who played 4 seasons in the QMJHL with Chicoutimi and Victoriaville.
The Seahawks next pick was Ray Fitzpatrick, former player with the now defunct Saint John Blackhawks. The Seahawks, continuing to hold true to their commitment to bring more size and strength to the team, then selected Jeff Macauley who spent for years between the QMJHL and UPEI.
Rounding out the draft the Seahawks selected locals Chris McPherson and Scott Giberson.
With many new faces, along with the departure of some familiar ones, the Seahawks look forward to the upcoming 2009/2010 season.
